History of Filatex Vechukunnel Pvt. Ltd.
A family owned business that had its humble beginnings in the early 1960s when Mr. V.C. Thomas, the founder and a native of Kanjirapally, foresaw the immense potential for rubber thread in India due to the availability of natural latex. V.C. Thomas started Padappady Rubber Works in Kanjirapally in 1965, with his partner K.V. Abraham, employing about 250 workers. He developed a unique method to manufacture rubber thread (single thread format), making his company the only one in India to do so. Mr V.C. Thomas established another factory in Trivandrum in 1978, named V.C. Thomas & Co., to enhance production. After his death in 1979, his wife Mariamma Thomas, and his brother, V.C Varghese took over the management of the companies. In 1987, the factory in Trivandrum was taken over by Chacko Varghese and Thomas Varghese and the factory in Kanjirapally by Alexander Varghese, all sons of V.C. Varghese.
The 1990’s witnessed many changes in the rubber thread industry. With mass production, the demand for heat resistant latex rubber thread (HRLRT) in ribbon format was increasing. In 1996, Chacko Varghese, supported by Thomas Varghese, after several years of research, successfully produced HRLRT under the brand Filatex, in Trivandrum, with an annual capacity of 1000 tons. V.C. Thomas & Co was renamed to Filatex VCT. He later set up Filatex Vechukunnel – a new state of the art factory, with a higher capacity of 3000 tons per annum factory, in Canal Pirivu, Palakkad.
Filatex strives to provide its customers with the best quality available in the market and it’s growth over the years showcases that.
